What Is Pilates? Fitness, Core & More!

Pilates is a systemized form of exercise, originated by Joseph Pilates, which strengthens, stretches and balances the body by focusing on core muscles in the abdomen and back. Though Pilates history is intertwined with dance training, this fitness method has gained popularity with all kinds of people.

Pilates is attractive because it’s not hard on your joints and promotes long, lean muscles. The movements work together to shape and tone the body. They combine flexion, extension and rotation to deliver a full body workout. Pilates can be done on equipment designed to enhance tension and resistance and to encourage correct form. Pilates can also be done on a matt on the floor where you work with your own body weight.

Pilates is hard work, but should not be intimidating because it’s fun and can be accomplished by everybody. Pilates teaches intelligent movement and changes the way your body looks and feels! We offer authentic Pilates instruction that is a fun and challenging workout for the whole body!
